Egnyte Adds Google Drive Integration
Remember when the only way to share a document with a coworker was to copy it to a disk (which often took several minutes) and then walk it over to your colleague’s desk so he could upload to his computer (often another several minutes). Oh, and you had to be sure you both had the same version of the same app on the same kind of computer in order for the document to open on both of your desktops? Yeah…good times. In today’s work environment, we don’t think twice about shooting documents back and forth via email. We require instant access to our data regardless of our location, and complain if there’s any downtime. We just pick the tools and apps that enable us to do our jobs most efficiently – like Google Drive. And this is great, but wouldn’t it be even better if we could combine these with enterprise features such as secure file sharing and storage?
This week we introduced a Google Drive integration that provides the ability to securely and reliably see, share and collaborate on documents and files stored in Google Drive. This enables businesses to combine cloud content creation with enterprise file storage and sharing. This new integration also eases IT’s woes by adding an extra layer of security, while allowing users to work with the tools that best fit their work styles. The new integration is simple – need to share a Google spreadsheet or document? Simply import it into Egnyte, and the two documents automatically sync when updates are made. You can then either share a link through Egnyte or use Google Drive to add colleagues to collaborate in real-time.In addition, users can now store Google Docs and MS Office files side by side inside their secure Egnyte folders to create a unified namespace of their files across their smartphones, tablets and computers. Users can see everything they have access to and don’t really need to worry whether it’s in the cloud, on their desktop or on some other storage device. The Google Drive integration is available today. Check it out and let us know what you think!
